A 37-year-old man died when he was electrocuted while connecting a new NamPower-owned solar power plant near Omaruru to an electricity substation on Tuesday.
The man has been identified as Andries Oberholzer, who was an employee of the solar power company HopSol.
The Namibian Police’s deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu said Oberholzer collapsed at the work site and was rushed to Omaruru State Hospital by his colleagues, but was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Oberholzer died while connecting the new 20-megawatt Omburu power plant near Omaruru to a NamPower electricity grid substation.
HopSol managing director Robert Hopperdietzel did not want to to comment on the matter when he was contacted.
A police investigation into the matter is continuing.
