Panaji: Twelve companies have shown interest to set up floating solar power plants at four dams across the state.
The state government had invited expression of interest (EOI) for selection of solar power developers for setting up of grid connected floating solar power plants at four dams across the state.
A senior government officer said that they have received a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the water resources department and are awaiting NOC from the electricity department. “We have written to the electricity department for their NOC. Once we get it, the government will float different tenders to set up the plants,” the senior officer said.
The solar power plants will be set up at Selaulim, Amthanem, Anjunem and Chapoli dams on a design, build, finance and operate model for a period of 25 years.
The senior officer said that the bidders will be asked to submit their concept note and feasibility report along with the technical and financial feasibility of the concept. The bidders will also have to submit a report of their technical and financial capability. The senior officer said that the main scope of the bidder is to assess the potential of the grid connected floating solar power plant capacity at each location. The scope of the work also includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the plants with operation and maintenance and the evacuation of the power and its transmission up to the nearest substation.
The officer said the objectives of the EOI include solar power generation, conservation of water due to less evaporation, creation of employment for the rural community, higher solar generation due to maintained temperature of solar panels. Since the solar power project will be installed on water surface, the land surfaces for the same capacity of project can be utilised for other purposes and land cost is not applicable.
The officer said the salient feature of EOI is that the department of new and renewable energy will assist in providing required area at all four dams from WRD for installation of floating solar power plant projects.
